Amid the ever evolving circumstances around the global Coronavirus pandemic, Select Property Group Managing Director Adam Price has written the following letter to all customers, updating them on the steps we’ve taken to safeguard our operations, our staff and our developments.
As all of us contend with the ever-evolving impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, I want to update you on the steps being taken by Select Property Group to support our teams, our customers and our partners through this difficult time.
Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my very best wishes to you and your family. As a husband and father myself, I understand the emotional strain this situation is having on our loved ones. Please keep your family safe and well.
Here at Select Property Group, we continue to closely monitor and follow government advice in the UK and all our international territories. Like many other companies, most of our office-based colleagues are currently working from home for the next few weeks at least. We have advised the team to avoid unnecessary travel and face-to-face meetings for the time being.
Through conference calls, WhatsApp and other technologies, I am delighted to say that we have adapted incredibly to this new challenge. Across all departments, we continue to provide the high levels of service our customers expect of us, and our phone numbers and emails are contactable as normal.
At many of our completed developments, the amazing residence teams continue to operate the buildings and serve residents as close to business as usual as possible.
This is the case at all operational Vita Student developments across the UK, and at Affinity Living Riverside in Manchester, the first building from our premium residential brand which opened its doors in January 2020. Whilst some of the amenities, services and events which form part of the unique Vita Student and Affinity Living experiences for residents may have been temporarily suspended, the team is working hard to introduce alternative arrangements and new services which are meaningful in the current climate.
However, during this time of non-essential travel restrictions, and in accordance with UK government advice, the CitySuites team has taken the difficult decision to temporarily close its luxury serviced apartment development in Manchester for new arrivals. The brilliant team at CitySuites continues to accommodate the long-term residents and guests that are already staying in the building and look forward to re-opening to new guests very soon.
I am thrilled to say that the response from staff, residents and guests in supporting these efforts has been fantastic and, on behalf of the entire company, we are truly grateful.
We have also been working closely with all our appointed construction partners to understand the challenges they face in relation to constraints the current situation is placing on their normal labour and material supply chains. While construction sites have continued to operate largely as normal up until recently, contractors are now telling us that they have been left with no alternative but to temporarily suspend all works. This is because it has become too difficult to maintain the necessary procedures to keep sites operational. They will monitor and adhere to the advice of the UK government as and when any new guidelines are announced, with a view to getting back to work on-site as soon as circumstances allow.
Therefore, I wanted to write to you to let you know that we are working tirelessly to minimise any disruption this challenge may have on the completion and handover of new buildings, as well as the smooth operation and underlying rental performance of all our existing buildings.
Encouragingly, over the past two weeks there has been continued high demand from people looking to book to stay at Vita Student, Affinity Living and CitySuites buildings later in the year and beyond. This has also been the case for new investment enquiries; investors from around the world continue to get in touch with us, underlining the enduring strength and popularity of UK property during times of wider uncertainty.
Whilst it is too early for us to fully assess the impact of COVID-19, through the actions we have taken, and the loyalty for our business and brands that we have established over a long time, we hope to minimise the short-term impact on lettings, revenue and investment performance. I remain confident that the current restrictions and the challenges they pose will be short-lived, and that ultimately the underlying demand for our developments will remain as strong as ever.
We will, of course, keep you updated as this fast-moving situation evolves. As soon as any new announcement directly affects your property in any of our developments, we will communicate them with you separately.
